Storage of cargoes within the frame of freight services can be preconditioned by different factors: waiting in the queue for loading, awaiting for consignee, so called “transshipment storage”.
It is worth mentioning that effective functioning of warehouse directly depends on the arrangement of the storage system. In a single warehouse both one and several types of cargo storage can be used.
Types of cargo storage:
- Shelf storage is the most popular type of temporary storage of cargoes. Shelves are ready-built metal structures due to specifics of which it is possible to form cells of the required height and width. Dimensions of every cell can be adjusted for every particular cargo individually and thus provide the rational distribution of warehouse space. Temporary storage of cargoes can be also provided by means of so called “cantilever shelves”;
- Cantilever shelves are used for temporary storage of long items of cargo, such as: pipes, rolled steel, coils etc.
- Pallet is the most universal unit for storage and carriage of cargo. Advantage of storage of cargo on pallets is due to the fact that, if required, such cargo can be promptly taken out of the warehouse territory and transferred to the loading terminal. Before the cargo is placed on the pallet, it is packed into carton tare. Very often, in order to optimize storage, the cargo is palletized, in the result the cargo and pallet are firmly tightened.
It is impossible to imagine carriage and storage of cargoes separately, that is why our company offers services of storage as a part of international freight service. Special attention should be made to storage of dangerous cargoes.
Specifics of storage of dangerous cargoes
It should be pointed out that all dangerous substances are classified by classes. For each class its own specific conditions of storage are stipulated by the national and international legislation. Specific requirements are made, first of all, to warehouses for storage of dangerous cargoes.
- Warehouse must be one-stage;
- Warehouse must not be stove- or steam-heated;
- During warehouse construction only fire-resisting materials must be used;
- Inner warehouse room must be divided into sections.
